Flyers Fall to Davidson-Davie

The Sandhills Community College basketball team's five-game winning streak was snapped in a 96-56 loss to Davidson-Davie CC in Thomasville on Saturday afternoon.

The Flyers connected on a season-low 36.5 per cent of their shots from the field and committed a season-high 34 turnovers. They were also out-rebounded by a wide margin.

Coach Mike Apple's squad dropped to 10-5 while the No. 6 ranked in Division II Storm improved to 12-2.

"We got dominated in every phase of the game," Apple said afterward. "We have to regroup to play USC Salkehatchie on Tuesday."

The Flyers travel to Walterboro, SC to meet the Division I Indians (8-6) in a 5 p.m. start.

Behind 28-14 with about nine minutes remaining in the first half, three baskets in a row by Isaiah Nelson reduced the Flyers' deficit to eight points.

With under four minutes remaining, a three by Keegan Brayboy made it 38-27, but the Storm scored the next seven points to take a commanding 45-27 lead at the intermission. Four minutes into the second half, the home team stretched its advantage to 28 points.

Nelson connected on all five of his shots from the field and led the Flyers with 11 points. Bryan Quiller contributed nine points and five rebounds in his return from an injury suffered in a preseason game.
