Flyers Ease by Community Christian - Final Exams Next
The undefeated Sandhills Community College basketball team did not allow a field goal for the first six minutes of Saturday's game against Community Christian CC and coasted to a 112-48 home victory.
Ranked No.1 in the NJCAA Division III National Poll the last two weeks, the Flyers, now 11-0, are idle until Saturday when they travel to Clifton Forge, VA for a 3 p.m. tip-off against Dabney S. Lancaster CC.
On Military Appreciation Day at the Hangar, the Flyers didn't score a basket either against the team from Lancaster, SC until the third minute when Tyrell Allmond turned one in transition into a three-point play. Midway through the first half, a three by Winston Bryan gave them a double digit lead they kept expanding the rest of the way.
Corry Addison and Elijah Idlett led five Flyers in double figures with 13 points each. Addison was also credited with four rebounds, eight assists and seven steals. Sayaun Dent's fourth double-double of the season included 12 points and 13 boards. Zion Bailey and Bryan added 11 points apiece.
The latest NJCAA statistics show the Flyers as the No. 1 ranked team in the nation in scoring at 104.6 points per game. Their free throw percentage of 71.3 is ninth best.
Final exams at Sandhills get underway this week. The Flyers' last basketball game before the holiday break is at home on Wednesday, December 18 at 7 p.m. against Shooting For Greatness Academy.
