Flyers Scorch the Nets at Lees-McRae
The Sandhills Flyers basketball team made 61 per cent of its shots from the field and 84.4 per cent from the free throw line in Saturday's 133-103 road victory over the Lees-McRae Junior varsity.
The Flyers take a record of 13-5 into Thursday's 6 p.m. contest against the Pfeiffer University junior varsity that completes a stretch of four away dates in a row. They are back home against Johnston CC in a Region X game on Saturday at 7 p.m.
Some of the impressive individual shooting stats against the Bobcats include Chase Morrisette-Barnett, 10-for-14 from the field and 25 points, Damauri Sexton, 9-for-11 on the way to a career-high 23 points and Evan Davis, 6-for-8 and a total of 15 points.
Sayaun Dent was 9-for-9 from the charity stripe and scored 19 points to go with 10 rebounds and six assists. Holt Walker was 5-for-6 from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points. Donnie Haith contributed a team-high eight assists.
The Flyers led 69-54 at halftime in winning for the sixth time in their last seven outings.
Former Flyers in action- Also on Saturday, Mason Harrell scored eight points and grabbed seven rebounds in Winston-Salem State's 90-84 victory over Chowan, and in Grand Rapids, Mich., Zezva Liluashvili scored 10 points for Aquinas College in a 69-66 loss to Lourdes. Earlier in the week, Christian Lathan scored a season-high 19 points to help St. Andrews defeat Allen University 91-85.
