Late Rally by USC-Salkehatchie Adds Up to a Road Loss for the Flyers

The Sandhills Community College basketball team was unable to hold off a late rally by USC-Salkehatchie in South Carolina on Saturday afternoon and suffered a 96-86 defeat.

The Flyers (11-5) led 44-37 at the intermission and maintained an advantage until about six minutes remained in the game before the Division I Indians (9-6) moved ahead.

Chase Morrisette-Barnett led four Flyers in double figures with 21 points. Donnie Haith poured in 18 and Devian Smith and Sayaun Dent added 10 apiece. Both teams made over 50 per cent of their shots from the field, but the Flyers were outscored 28-8 at the charity stripe and were outrebounded 49-32.

The Flyers have three more road games before returning to the friendly confines of the Hangar against Johnston CC on January 19. This week's games take them to Lenoir CC in Kinston at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and to Banner Elk for a date with the Lees-McRae junior varsity at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
