Flyers Win No. 20 - Host Washington Academy on Wednesday

The Sandhills Community College basketball team reached the 20-win plateau for the seventh time in the last eight years with a 90-53 victory over the Guilford College junior varsity in Greensboro on Monday.

Wednesday's scheduled game against the St. Andrews junior varsity has been cancelled. Instead the Flyers (20-5) will entertain Washington Academy of Greenville at 6 p.m. at Heins Gymnasium.

Freshman point guard Donnie Haith had 17 points, five assists and four steals at Guilford where both head coach Mike Apple and athletic director Aaron Denton played basketball in college. Emmanuel Merriweather with 12 points, and four steals, and Luke Moore with 10 points, were other double-figure scorers. Six Flyers were credited with three or more assists on another good night of sharing the basketball. Malik McCrimmon, Casey Clarkson and Tavarus Peterson had four apiece.

The Flyers complete regular season Region X play with a 3 p.m. game at Johnston CC on Saturday and a 7 p.m. home date with Central Carolina CC next Wednesday. Looking ahead a couple of weeks, the Region X Tournament is scheduled to be held at Wake Tech in Raleigh on February 24 and 25.
