Sandhills Women's Beach Volleyball Drops Close Double Header to St. Andrews University

In a thrilling doubleheader yesterday, the Sandhills Community College women's beach volleyball team faced off against St. Andrews University in a series of tightly contested matches. Despite putting up a valiant effort, the Flyers narrowly lost both games by a score of 3-2 each.

The first match of the day was a nail-biter, with St. Andrews clinching victory in a tense third set on the number three court. Game one started with a split, Sandhills winning in the fours and dropping a 2-1 decision in the twos. In the second flight, the Flyers number five pair picked up a 2-0 decision and the number one pair dropped a 2-0 decision. Olivia Barlowe and Nikki Lambert of Sandhills fought hard in the number three pairs, but were narrowly outmatched by their Knights counterparts.

The second match saw a similar narrative, with the Flyers once again falling short by a slim margin. However, amidst the tough competition, standout performances emerged from Jenna Luquer and Aydan Bullard, who secured wins in both of their matches, showcasing their growth and determination on the sand.

Dajsha Fields and Lainey Mullins, as well as Alexis Hinson and Alyssa Maragelis, each contributed with a 1-1 record on the day.

Looking ahead, the Flyers are gearing up for the Region 10 Championship tournament, set to take place at Gaston College on Saturday, April 20th, 2024. The tournament kicks off with Wake Tech facing off against Spartanburg Methodist in the opening game at 9am.

Following that, the number one seed Richard Bland Statesmen will take on the winner of the first game in the second match. Sandhills will then enter the fray in game three against Gaston College, with each game scheduled to begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the previous match.
