Louis Craft (Basketball 2011-12), Fayetteville State University Class of 2014, Professional Athlete

Louis has enjoyed great success in Europe following a successful two-year stint at Fayetteville State University. He came to Sandhills in the summer of 2011 after a year at community college in Florida and working full time a few years. His commitment to his education was evident from the start as he grew both as a student and as an athlete at SCC on the way to helping the Flyers capture the 2012 NJCAA Basketball National Championship.

 

Ediz Kemaloglu (Golf 2013-15), Bethune Cookman University, Professional Athlete

Ediz brought an international flavor along with a great depth of playing experience to Sandhills and helped the Flyers to the 2014 national title along with a 2015 runner-up finish. He has played in the European Tour’s Turkish Airlines Open multiple times and became the first Turkish professional golfer to make the cut in a professional tournament in Europe in Spring 2016.

 

Kim Mitchell, (Golf 2012-13), Western Carolina University, Class of 2016

Kim burst onto the scene leading the first women’s golf team at the college in the Fall of 2012 to an 11th place national finish. Her work garnered her a scholarship from WCU where she enjoyed a productive three-year career for the Catamounts. She became the first WCU player to earn a spot in the match play round of the US Women’s Amateur in the Summer of 2015. Kim recorded four top 10 finishes as a Catamount. She came to Sandhills after a year at the renowned Hank Haney Golf Academy in Hilton Head, SC.

 

Amber Otkin, (Volleyball 2008-10), South Dakota State University, Class of 2016, Labor & Delivery RN

Amber captained Sandhills’ first two volleyball teams in 2008 and 2009 and served as an assistant coach on the 2010 team who earned a trip to the national tournament in Rochester, MN. She earned her Associate Degree in Nursing from Sandhills in 2011. Amber and husband (Jeremy) moved back home to Pipestone, Minnesota and welcomed their first child, a little girl, Audyn.  Amber worked at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota before landing her dream job as a Labor and Delivery RN. In April of 2015, Amber and Jeremy welcomed their second child, a little boy, Dempsey who was named after the President of Sandhills Community College, Dr. John Dempsey.

 

The Wood Sisters, Kathleen (2010) & Peyton (2014) (Volleyball)

Kathleen and Peyton both left their mark on SCC on the court and in the classroom. Both earned NJCAA national academic honors. Kathleen was an NJCAA Exemplary honoree in 2011 while Peyton followed with the NJCAA Superior Academic Award in 2015. Kathleen is working to complete her degree in veterinary medicine at NC State University while Peyton finishes up her BSN at UNC Pembroke to become a nurse.

 

Germann Bostic, (Basketball 2008-10), Shaw University, Class of 2016, Boys & Girls Club Teen Director

Germann put the young SCC basketball program on the map in the first season scoring 50 and 47 points in games on the way to Freshman and Sophomore All-American Honors. He was the Region X player of the year in 2010 and flew to Las Vegas to compete in the NJCAA All-Star Game. He earned a scholarship to Shaw University in Raleigh but a foot injury later sidelined him. He completed his degree at Shaw in Recreation Management and works locally at the Boys & Girls Club. Germann also played professionally with the Fayetteville Flight.

 

Miranda Love, (Volleyball 2010), Sandhills Class of 2013 (LPN), 2016 (RN)

Miranda transferred home to SCC after a year at St. Andrews University in Laurinburg. She and her teammates made the most of her one season capturing the Region X and District championships on the way to a 7th place finish at the NJCAA national tournament. For her efforts Miranda garnered Region X player of the year laurels and NJCAA All American Status. After obtaining her LPN certificate she worked at Quail Haven Village before returning to SCC and completing her Associate Degree in Nursing. She was inducted into the inaugural class of the Sandhills Athletics Hall of Fame in 2013.

 

Paige Horne, (Volleyball 2010-11), Fayetteville State Class of 2015, High School Teacher/Coach

Paige should probably change her middle name to Champ as three of her four years in college volleyball resulted in league titles. She was a member of the first Region X Champion volleyball team at Sandhills before transferring to nearby Fayetteville State University for a successful final two campaigns resulting in two CIAA conference championships. An honors student, she completed her degree in Mathematics and is a high school volleyball teacher and coach. In her first season coaching her team finished 20-1.
