Helen Apple

Helen worked at Sandhills Community College for 33 years and helped with numerous parts of college activities. Whether it be her administrative duties or her constant support of club and intramural sports, Helen was supportive of all aspects of the college. She has seen the college grow and grow, helping numerous students become acquainted with their surroundings and pointing them in the right direction. Many student athletes first interaction with Sandhills was often with Helen Apple. She followed the academic progress of student athletes and assisted with securing housing.  The recipient of the Walter G. and Marguerite R. Robins Award in 1987 for her long and distinguished service she was recognized as an ideal figure at the college. Many students, if not all, recognized Helen as someone they could go to for information and guidance. During her time with the college there were not many areas she did not impact.

Jeff Robinson

Jeff Robinson ranks as one of the most accomplished Sandhills Spartan golfers for his success in golf both on and off the course. At Sandhills Robinson helped his team to the NJCAA National Tournament with a best finish of 9th place during his Freshman season. He qualified as an individual in both years at Sandhills. He led the Spartans to victory at Louisburg College’s tournament by posting a 63. His fondest memory of the tournament was the team posting a team score of eight under par while counting a 78 in the team score. He won the prestigious Hillandale Memorial golf tournament in Durham, NC posting rounds of 68-64 (10 under). Robinson followed the victory with a Herald Sun (Durham) Classic title. He also placed in the top 25 in the Tournament Players Association mini-tour in 1986-87 in California. He is a 28+ veteran sales professional in the golf industry where Robinson garnered recognition both inside and outside of his company. Some awards include: Titleist Gold Circle Award 1999, 2001, 2005, 2012; Representative of the Year for Central Florida PGA Chapter- 2007; Sales Representative of the Year for Central Florida PGA Chapter 2001; Sales Representative of the year for North Florida PGA 2001.

Germann Bostic

Germann Bostic was a Scotland County product that helped the new era of Sandhills basketball get off the ground running. During his freshman season Bostic averaged 26.1 points per game thanks to a 50-point and 47-point game boosting him to second in the nation in scoring for NJCAA men’s basketball. Bostic garnered NJCAA Honorable Mention All-American laurels after his Freshman campaign. An NJCAA Division lll second team All- American his sophomore year for the flyers and also Region X player of the year, Bostic helped SCC basketball soar to where it is today. Bostic was also selected to play in the NJCAA Coaches Association All-Star game his sophomore year. Bostic also earned the Louis M. Brown Outstanding Athlete award while at Sandhills. After his Flyers career Bostic continued his basketball dreams playing on a full scholarship at Shaw University. He currently impacts the community serving at the Boy’s and Girl’s Club.

1965-66 Basketball Team

The 1965-66 Basketball Team was the first athletic team at SCC. The Spartans squad spurred the start of Sandhills athletics when they approached Jim Reid and insisted on having a basketball team that very season. And with Reid’s help have a team they did – playing in gyms across southern Moore County and playing with borrowed uniforms from North Moore High School the team laid the foundation for countless numbers of athletes to follow. Sports expanded to various offerings enlisting the help of many on campus but few understand the efforts, challenges and sacrifices of the first men to represent Sandhills Community College in the athletic arena.
