Our Committed, Caring Faculty

In their own words learn about our faculty:

Pete Golden

Sciences Professor; Director, Center for Teaching and Learning; Athletic Advisory Committee Member

"My teaching philosophy is to try and provide students the resources they need to be successful.  Learning is challenging but can also be fun.  I try to make my classes as fun as possible and to try to relate chemistry to “everyday” life and experiences. I’m also aware that for the majority of my students who take chemistry, they will never use that material once they leave my class.  If I can teach them how to analyze and solve problems and how to work in a team within the context of chemistry, those are skills that can apply to almost any situation."

Cathy Kruska

Associate Professor Communication and Business Management and Technology

My teaching philosphy is "To provide a safe and experiential learning environment where students can think critically, challenge as well as confirm their perceptions of the world and of themselves, explore communication theories, and gain valuable skills for life and their careers.

My mottos:  "COMMUNICATION is THE competitive advantage!" and "Today is the first day of the rest of your life!"

What makes Sandhills faculty special?  We genuinely CARE about our students and their success at SCC.

What makes Sandhills CC a special place?  We actually live and practice our Core Values every minute of every day.

What are the most positive aspects of athletics at SCC?  To learn and master humility, teamwork, leadership, communication, and integrity as the athlete builds character for life and work.

Why should a student come to SCC?  For the faculty, staff, coaches, and classmates -- our people!

Susan Grine

English Professor and Chair, Department of English and Humanities

Students are the best  teachers! As an English professor, I appreciate the chances I have every semester to share my passion about the Oxford Comma or the poetry of William Carlos Williams; however, I'm even more thankful for the lessons I learn from my students.

Our inter-connectivity enriches all of our experiences at SCC, and the respect the faculty, staff, and students have for each other fosters an atmosphere of excellence and integrity. I'm here to help each student move from his/ her "point A" to his/her "point B," and I am grateful every day for this opportunity to encourage and support others in their academic and life pursuits.

More to come soon!
